Yesterday Steve Jobs said at the WWDC conference that the iPhone was launching June 29th at 6PM. Which sounded a little strange to everyone, most expected them to be released upon store opening. Alas old Steve Job was wrong, the iPhones will be sold upon Apple and AT & T store openings. It seems Steve’s eyes wandered from the prompter for a little there.

This of course is not including the Playstation 3. Today Toshiba announced sales of 150,000 HD DVD Players since its release last year. According to TG Daily, if this was to include Playstation 3 sales than Blu-Ray has sole 20 times more hardware than HD DVD. Just recently, however, the HD-A2 Toshibas lowest end player reached a price point of $199 through online retailers (though it remainded at this price point only a day) much lower than that of Blu-Rays cheapest player. So the war continues between more movie support (Blu-Ray) or lower prices (HD DVD).

The Financial Times is reporting that Apple is in talks with large tv studios to offer an online film rental service.
The proposed cost is $2.99 for a 30 day rental in which you can move it to another device (iPhone, iPod, AppleTV) only once. This of course has the executives at movie companies all giddy as these rentals should not affect dvd sales as the movie sales on iTunes do. One executive stated the service would “compete against cable companies and anyone else offering VOD into the home”. And another said “When you think about Apple customers they are so connected to the brand they will try anything to do with it,” said one senior studio executive.
